Hollywood this week seemed to try to bring the audience into the 80s. After the release of The A-Team is quite successful entertaining, in the same week Hollywood has also released The Karate Kid, a family film released in 1984 and was successful both critically and commercially. If the original movie character played by actor karate instructor blooded Japanese, Pat Morita, who managed to get nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in the race for the Academy Awards for his role in the film, then in the newest version, the legendary Hong Kong actor, Jackie Chan, who received the honor to play a role.
The story itself is still taking the same story outline as the older version of The Karate Kid. Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) should be separated from his friends in Detroit and moved to the Beijing, China, because the demands of the job his mother, Sherry (Taraji P Henson). As usual, the processes to adapt to the new environment was something a little hard to do, especially for children age Dre.
His introduction to a beautiful girl, Mei Ying (Han Wen Wen), turned out to cause Dre became disliked by Cheng (Zhenwei Wang), a man who has long liked the May Ying. Together with his gang members, often making Dre Cheng as a "practice tool" Kung-Fu knowledge that they had been learned. This is, of course, make Dre do not feel more comfortable to be in China.

There are quite a lot of things changed from the latest version of The Karate Kid this. If this film initially has a background place in Los Angeles, United States, so this time the background of the story is located in Beijing, China. This turned out to provide some meaningful influence on the overall storyline, especially the long duration of the film increases to 140 minutes, which many spent to show the locations of China's tourism: The Forbidden City and The Great Wall, which did not really affect the storyline main.
The location is in China apparently has given the impression "weird" separate in some people, China's long since been known as an industrious country teaches Kung-Fu on youth - as shown on the film itself. Obviously this gives a contradiction to the title of the film that emphasizes the word "karate." Martial art Karate was not mentioned on this film in its entirety, and replaced by Kung-Fu. Does not offer anything new, The Karate Kid storyline has been found in many similar films. This does not mean bad, especially for younger audiences who most certainly will be able to enjoy this film - if they can survive on the long duration of this film. But a more mature audience would expect a deeper interaction between the characters Dre with adult characters in the surrounding areas, which will be able to give the drama more touching again on this film.
Jaden Smith, son of actor Will Smith who had starred in The Pursuit of Happyness, also seem to still need a lot of honing his acting skills if he wants to portray a character that requires it to always be in front of the screen every time. Smith sometimes still looks stiff in playing her character, and yet has a significant emotional bond between herself and another actor-actor in the surrounding areas, especially Jackie Chan who is always on his side. Jackie Chan's own playing is not bad, although her character becomes less visible and prominent in the overall life movie. Chan also was not much using his best performance in Kung-Fu for this movie, which increasingly play down his role in this film.
Again acting as a mother, as in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button of, and again seen his role is limited to the roles of a mother who often give the appearance of worry or comical, Taraji P Henson actually be termed as the only actor who played overall dynamic in this movie. His presence always adds value and makes The Karate Kid becomes more enjoyable. Of course very unfortunate role here is limited to just a few moments.
Along the 140-minute duration may require that director Harald Zwart to always extend the duration of each scene in this film, although in fact has less effect on the overall quality of the storyline. Still rely on standard formulas of Hollywood family films, The Karate kid will be fun for every audience they are young and happy with the kind of films.
